FAT AND FABULOUS IS ON THE RISE! FAT AND FABULOUS IS ON MY THIGHS!

Since when is the person in this drawing someone who would be considered “fat”?
If you’re going to make statements about being body positive (something I am totally into), don’t fuck it up like this.  What the artist has essentially done, in calling a normally-sized person “fat,” is made anyone bigger than that seem obese on some level.

^^^ yes.

^this.
Also, can we stop trying to make fat a good thing here on the tumblrtrons? I think the whole “love your body” movement should aim closer to its original intentions: “don’t hate yourself because of your body.” I don’t think it should mean, “Be as fat and gross and unhealthy as you want! You’ll always be beautiful!” Maybe I’m just not posi enough. I don’t know.
Having been fat, I know there’s nothing glamorous about it. I was picked on, rejected by everyone I was interested in romantically, and just generally treated like scum. I didn’t hate myself because of it (though, at that time, I did hate myself), but I took a proactive stance. I worked out, ate a bit better, and got in shape. It was hard work, but I had to do it. And now I look better and feel better. Even as a smoker, it’s a hundred times easier for me to do physical activity than it was when I was fat.
We should encourage people to live healthy lifestyles, but to also not be concerned if they don’t come out looking rail thin. I think your body should be loved and accepted, but we shouldn’t praise people who aren’t putting in the effort to better themselves just to make ourselves seem progressive.
And now I lose followers, haha.

As sad as it is, people this size ARE considered fat by a lot of people. I was called fat growing up all the time and made to believe that at that size, I was fat. I worked out and ate well. But people still called me fat. Just saying.

i hate it when people who used to be fat lose weight and now ALL OF A SUDDEN they think they’re the fuckin poster child for healthy living, “of i did it you can do it too!p.s. now i have the right to join in with all the other assholes who used to make fun of me because i no longer look like you” i’m not saying working out and being healthy is a bad thing, but not everyone that is big goes around eating fast food for every meal and sits on their ass all day. it’s a different struggle for different people and i think promoting body acceptance is the first step to positive change. studies have shown that a negative self image leads to crash diets that make a person more overweight than they were when they started out.
so if some “fat” woman sees this picture and brings herself closer to acceptance about her body, then i think that is more of a step to a positive change. not preaching about how a person needs to completely change the way they look before they can consider being proud

No we won’t stop trying to make fat a fucking good thing. Will you stop trying to make it a bad thing and associate it with being “gross” and “unhealthy”? Fatness. Does. Not. Constitute. Illness. Do your fucking research. “we shouldn’t praise people who aren’t putting in the effort to better themselves just to make ourselves seem progressive.” - what the hell is that supposed to mean? You think people who are fat aren’t putting the effort in? To what? Their own well-being? They probably are, but even if they weren’t, it’s none of your goddamn business. To the public at large? By making ourselves more acceptable to your vision? You’re the ones who aren’t putting the effort in to being less fucking bigoted.
Sorry for the swears. I know it’s going to take a long long long long LONG time for people to start realising these things, and that it probably won’t happen in my lifetime, but it makes me so incredibly angry that these people are probably wandering around in day to day life thinking they’re oh so compassionate but secretly harbouring these kind of thoughts.

Hello. I made this for my good friend Sonya and her column on Lip Magazine. Sonya identifies as fat (feminist and fabulous) so I don’t get the quibbling over this. Random people on the internet do not get to pick what other people identify with. Random people on the internet also have absolutely zero stake in other people’s health, body size or other stuff.
Fat people are not just one shape or size. That’s the revolutionary thing here. It’s insulting when someone turns to me and says “Oh you’re not fat!” when I am fat. I’m deathfat. I’m just not “fat” to them because I’m their friend and they consider “fat” as a pejorative.
I got news for you. I’m fat youse guys. So is Sonya.

I wish I could just “like” definatalie’s post and not have it pass on to the rest of the commentators. (Natalie this must be really weird!)
I’m about the same size as the girl in the picture. I am considered fat by any estimation. I am 14 - plus size. In Malaysia, where I was from, I am AT LEAST XXL. By Asian BMI standards (which as smaller than the Western world despite South Asians like myself generally not being tiny people, except for my sis I suppose) I might as well be obese.
I take circus classes at least once a week, 3 hours of moving. I walk everywhere. I keep down on my junk food. I’m not perfect, but I’m a lot healthier than I perhaps was when I was a teenager and a couple of sizes smaller. Shape DOES NOT determine health.
And those of you who say this is not fat? If you’re not the size in the picture, you won’t have a clue what fat is or not.
